TIF 308 L, TIF 316 L Flux Coated GTAW Filler Rods for root pass exclusive use.

1.Introduction
TIF 308L, TIF 316L Flux Coated GTAW Filler Rods recommended for the first layer (root pass) of piping butt welding, with GTAW process. GTAW process is often used because of its high reliability and handling.
Conventional GTAW mast be back shielded by argon gas, to avoid oxidation of the inner face of the weld.
The cost of the needed argon gas for this welding is too high.
In addition, the back-shielded methods contain some difficulties.
However, with TIF Flux Coated GTAW Filler Rods, root pass can be carried out economically without shielding of back-bead by argon gas.
2. Characteristics

TIF is a filler rod of 2.0 mm. diameter, coated with 0.2 mm of flux, and 500 mm long. It is used exclusively for root pass without shielding of back gas.
When "TIF" are melted and slag are produced, satisfactory back-beads which are not oxidized by atmosphere can be obtained, because these beads are protected by the slag.
The slag can be removed smoothly like SMAW process.
3. Typical chemical composition of TIF rods:
TIF 308 L C 0.016, Si 0.40, Mn 1.10, P 0.026, S 0.008, Ni 10.29, Cr 19.11
TIF 316 L C 0.022, Si 0.42, Mn 1.20, P 0.021, S 0.008, Ni 10.15, Cr 19.29, Mo 2.20
